Argentina is a country in South America, that is located next to Brazil and it occupies most of the southern half of the continent east of the Andes Mountains. Its capital and largest city is Buenos Aires. It is a country composed by more than 39 million people and about 85 percent of Argentina’s population is of European origin. Argentina has relatively few mestizos (persons of mixed European and Native American ancestry), and it also has a small number of indigenous peoples. Spanish is the official language of Argentina and is spoken by the majority of the people. Lunfardo, is a  local dialect mixing Italian and Spanish, spoken in Buenos Aires.

In the last couple of decades, the countries economy has been declining and forcing many people to leave the country to find a better life. Unemployment of 25%, and very low salaries have cause a very high crime rate in the country, which became very dangerous. All these things made people change the way they lived and forget about their past, while looking for a better present elsewhere. As one interviewee describes: "the country was a disaster, I was an accountant and I couldn't even find a job as a taxi driver. How was I suppose to feed my family."
